HP 14" HD Laptop PC, AMD Ryzen 3 3250U Dual-Core Processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM, HDMI, AMD Radeon Vega 3 Graphics, Windows 10, Silver, W/ MD Accessories (128 GB)
-Have used this laptop for a week now and i'm impressed with both the performance and battery life.-Don't expect a gaming performance out of this, however, the key detail that the seller left out, as well as HP, is that this laptop has 2 RAM slots. by default the system comes with a generic RAM.-If you don't upgrade this system to something higher than 4 GB RAM, it can easily get overwhelmed (i managed to get it to hang several times). that's why i bought RAM upgrade Kit (Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 Laptop Memory CT2K8G4SFS824A) off of Ebay for $61. or you can get it here on amazon for $67.-To get the best performance out of this machine, you should consider the memory upgrade, to make use of the dual channel technology, which will also help boost the GPU performance. (you can lookup online why that helps).-If you don't believe me about the memory upgrade and it's benefit, go to youtube and check out a youtube called "ETA prime" he has several videos on those cheap laptops and upgrading them with an extra memory. he also performs performance tests with and without the memory upgrade.-I tested a game called "Livelock" which is a twinstick shooter game, before and after upgrading the ram, the game showed major difference in performance. i can get around 27-30 with dual memory kit upgrade.-Another key detail not mentioned here on the specs, is that the model of this machine is HP 14-dk1022wm.-According to the documentation of this laptop, it can support a memory expansion of upto 16 GB (2x8GB) @ 2400Mhz.-Why is this a key detail you might ask, because some similar models don't have an extra RAM slot, so make sure to do your research before buying other HP models similar to this one.-looking at the internals, there are no extra m.2 drive slots, and you can't install an SSD. Other than an extra memory, this little fella can't have any hardware upgrades.-WARNING!!!! make sure to check on youtube for the video disassembly guide so you don't end up cracking any plastic!!! you have been warned!-According to the performancetest software, the Vega3 GPU is close to ATI Radeon 4650 or so i read and 4670 ranks 40-50% higher than it.-3D graphics score jumped from 600ish to 1105 on PerformanceTest software.-The laptop comes with windows 10 S (which can easily be moved to windows 10 home, look it up online).-A major downside, is BLOATWARE! HP and other vendors are known for it, so be prepared to start uninstalling things.-Make sure to update the AMD drivers.-You can optionally update the other components as well, use the model (HP 14-dk1022wm) to find the driver support page.-The touch pad is extremely dry, so it might be a bit annoying at first but you get used to it (i know that it's a deal breaker to some people).-The laptop is extremely lightweight and i love that!-128GB drive capacity is too small for my taste, so you might want to add an SD card if you want to expand or buy an m.2 drive to upgrade it (at this point it won't be worth it as you are breaking the bank, better get the lenovo in the $450 range where it comes with Ryzen 5 4500U and bigger drive capacity).-The laptop handles multitasking flawlessly with a bit of performance tweaking (Disabling the ton of useless windows 10 spyware services).-The fan is overall quiet and you won't notice that this machine is even on :)-With power saving option, dimmed screenlight, and with wireless on, you can easily get around 6-7 hours. probably more without wireless if you are on a plane or watching a movie.-I tried booting live ubuntu from an SD card, the wireless driver wasn't detected. maybe if i installed it and tried to look for drivers it might have worked.-The camera is decent, not that i care too much about that.-The laptop doesn't heat up except for a tiny spot on the bottom left corner that gets a little bit warm which is expected since it's where the APU is.-I'll update this review if anything comes up.TL'DR: this laptop is worth it, but shouldn't be higher than $300.I love owning it. i included some screenshots for more details on this machine.
